Understanding Plumbing Basics

As a new homeowner, I can tell you that things aren't always as simple as they appear. I started thinking about it a few years ago, and I realized that there were some serious problems with our plumbing system. We had issues with drains working correctly and toilets flushing like they should, so I started focusing more heavily on understanding the basics of our plumbing system. Within a few short months the entire system was operating more fluidly because of a few changes that I made, so I wanted to create a blog all about my journey. Check out these articles to learn more about the plumbing basics.

Four Porta Potty Rental Tips For Your Community Fair

Jorge Alexander

If you're in charge of organizing your community fair this summer, one of the tasks you'll have to tackle is renting porta potties. Thinking about portable bathrooms may not be as enjoyable as planning the menu or hiring entertainers, but it is an essential aspect of event planning. Here are five tips to help ensure you approach it in the right way.

Get multiple estimates.

In most areas, there is more than one porta potty rental company. They may offer different rates, so it's helpful to get estimates from at least two different companies. Look for a company that will give you a binding estimate. This means that they agree to charge you exactly what they estimate. A non-binding estimate is not ideal since this type of arrangement would allow the company to charge you more than the estimate once the rental is complete.

Be aware that renting from the cheapest company is not always the best option. Consider what each company has to offer before making your decision. One company may be the better value because they offer much nicer porta potties, even though they charge a little more than the others.

Select your location carefully.

Think carefully about where you place the porta potties. You don't want to locate them near the food stands or in a high-traffic area. In most cases, placing them along the edge of the fair grounds is best. Try to place them so that the prevailing winds blow any odors away from the festival, not into it. For example, if your prevailing winds tend to blow east to west, place the porta potties on the west side of the event grounds.

Plan for handwashing.

Some higher-end porta potties come with built-in handwashing setups. However, these are more costly to rent than standard porta potties without handwashing setups. If you elect to rent the cheaper, standard porta potties, make sure you make other plans for handwashing. You can set up coolers with water and soap, or you can rent a single handwashing setup with several sinks and soap dispensers.

Rent more than you think you need.

Few things spoil an event faster than super-long porta potty lines. To ensure everyone has a good time, rent more porta potties than you think you need. You're better off paying to rent an extra five or six bathrooms than having guests leave early because they need to use the facilities and don't want to wait in line.
