Understanding Plumbing Basics

As a new homeowner, I can tell you that things aren't always as simple as they appear. I started thinking about it a few years ago, and I realized that there were some serious problems with our plumbing system. We had issues with drains working correctly and toilets flushing like they should, so I started focusing more heavily on understanding the basics of our plumbing system. Within a few short months the entire system was operating more fluidly because of a few changes that I made, so I wanted to create a blog all about my journey. Check out these articles to learn more about the plumbing basics.

Know The Signs: How To Tell When Your Well Pump Needs Repairs

Jorge Alexander

A residential well is an efficient way to bring water to your home. One of the great things about owning a residential well is that you don't need to rely on a municipal water company. When your water is supplied by a municipal water company, you run the risk that your supply will be shut off for maintenance or for other situations. Not only that, but the cost of your water is controlled by the water company. Luckily, you can avoid those problems by investing in your own residential water well. But, it is important that you provide proper maintenance and repairs for your residential water well. It's especially important that you keep your well pump in good repair. To ensure rapid repairs, read the information provided below. If you notice any of the problems described here, call for repairs right away.

Rapid Cycling of the Pump

If you've encountered problems with the way your well pump is cycling, you may need to schedule repairs. This is especially true if the pump is cycling on and off rapidly. When your pump is working properly, it should go through complete cycles. But, if the bladder is broken, you may notice that the pump cycles on and off quickly, without going through an entire cycle. If that's happening, you need to have repairs taken care of as quickly as possible.

Leak in the Switch Housing

If you've noticed water on the outside of the well pump housing, take immediate action. You might think that it's normal for your well pump to be wet, but that's not the case. Water on the outside of the pump housing is a good sign that there's a leak. The first thing you should do is try to tighten the fittings. If that doesn't solve the problem, you'll need to call for repairs right away. This is a sure sign that you've got a broken pressure switch on the pump.

Broken Electrical Contacts

If your well pump is shorting out on a regular basis, there could be a problem with the electrical contacts. This is especially true if your well pump is more than a few years old. Corrosion and normal wear-and-tear can cause the electrical connections to deteriorate. If that happens, you need to have your pump repaired as soon as possible.

Don't wait until the last minute. If your well pump is experiencing any of the issues described above, call for repairs right away. For more information, contact a well pump repair service.
